Make chance meaningful — introduce the language of probability with confidence and clarity.

This Language of Chance resource helps students understand and use the vocabulary of probability — words like certain, likely, unlikely, impossible and even chance. Rather than just memorising definitions, students explore probability concepts in context, building a genuine understanding of how likely events are to occur.

It's a perfectly pitched introduction to one of the most engaging areas of maths for primary students — and one where vocabulary is absolutely key to understanding.

Why teachers love it:

  • Vocabulary-first approach — explicitly teaches the language of probability before students apply it
  • Engages critical thinking — students justify their reasoning about likelihood
  • Curriculum-aligned — supports the Statistics and Probability strand of the Australian Curriculum
  • Print and go — ready to use as soon as you download

Perfect for:

  • Year 1–3 statistics and probability units
  • Maths warm-ups introducing chance language
  • Small group and whole class teaching
  • Consolidating probability vocabulary after explicit teaching
  • Maths journals and student reference materials

What's included:
Printable Language of Chance resources introducing and practising probability vocabulary — including activities where students classify events and justify their thinking using the correct mathematical language.

Understanding chance starts with having the words to talk about it.
