Multi-Step Word Problems Task Cards | Year 3
24 two-step word problem task cards for Year 3, in our soft pastel palette, with a full black-and-white set, a student recording sheet and an answer key that shows every step.
Each card tells a short everyday story that takes two steps to solve, such as "Emma picked 13 flowers on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. She gave 7 to her grandma. How many flowers does she have left?" The problems mix addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, matched to the Year 3 Australian Curriculum (v9).
The cards sit four to an A4 page with cut lines and crop marks, and each card has a big numbered circle that matches the recording sheet, so it's easy for students to keep track.
What's included:
- 24 colour task cards in our soft pastel palette, four to an A4 page
- 24 black-and-white task cards for low-ink printing or coloured card
- Title cards in four colours (and black and white) to label your task card tub, bag or case
- Student recording sheet with a box for each card and a learning intention: "I can solve two-step problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division."
- Two-page answer key with every step written out, so you can see exactly where a student went wrong
Why teachers love it:
- Pitched at Year 3: one of three separate packs, so every student in a composite class gets the right level
- Every step in the answer key, not just the final answer
- Fits a photo case: each cut card is about 14 × 9.5 cm, so it slips into a standard 4 × 6 inch photo or craft storage case
- Low prep: print, cut and go
Perfect for:
- Year 3 problem-solving and number units
- Maths rotations, centres and small groups
- Scoot or task card walk-around games
- Early finishers, warm-ups and revision

It came as a ZIP file — how do I open it?
On a Mac, double-click it. On Windows, right-click and choose 'Extract All'. Your PDF will be inside.
Can I print in colour or black and white?
Yes. The pack has a full colour set and a full black-and-white set, so print whichever suits you. The black-and-white cards look great on coloured card.
