Your whole Year 2 Australian money unit, planned, printed and ready to teach.

Twelve lessons take Year 2 from naming coins and notes to running their own Class Market Day. Every lesson opens with a five-minute number talk, uses hands-on Australian money activities and finishes with an open question that has more than one answer. Students skip count coins, count mixed collections, make the same amount different ways, order prices, find change from $5 and $10, and write their own money stories. Perfect for a two to three week money unit.

How the unit runs:

  1. Lessons 1 to 2: meet our coins and notes, and learn that bigger isn't always more.
  2. Lessons 3 to 5: skip count the same coins, count mixed collections from the biggest value, and make the same amount different ways.
  3. Lessons 6 to 8: order prices from cheapest to most expensive, then shop from a menu and work out the change.
  4. Lessons 9 to 10: write, share and solve money stories.
  5. Lessons 11 to 12: review and check in, then open the doors for Class Market Day!

Why teachers love it:

  • Every lesson is planned, with the exact resource and page named in each step
  • Games open each lesson, so review feels like play
  • Keeps Year 2 amounts in whole dollars and cents to $1, just as the curriculum asks
  • Numbered files match the program, so you can find what you need in seconds

Curriculum: Written for Year 2. Linked to the Australian Curriculum (Version 9), AC9M2N06: solving practical problems involving additive situations, including simple money transactions.
