2025 Book Week Blog: Free Resources, Apps & Adventure-Inspired Ideas for Teachers

Hey teacher!

Book Week 2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable literary journey! With this year’s theme, “Book an Adventure,” the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) invites teachers and students to open a book and be whisked away to magical lands, faraway places, and wild new worlds — all from the comfort of the classroom.

Whether you're planning your first Book Week celebration or you're a Book Week aficionado, this post is packed with free resources, apps, and classroom ideas to help you plan a week full of wonder, excitement and—most importantly—reading.

CBCA’s Official Book Week 2025 Resources

The Children’s Book Council of Australia has once again delivered a fantastic collection of official resources to help teachers bring the theme to life.

Official Poster by Jess McGeachin

This year’s poster is a stunning, whimsical map designed by illustrator Jess McGeachin. It’s packed with imaginative creatures and mysterious destinations, capturing the spirit of booking an adventure through stories. Display it in your classroom as a centrepiece or use it to inspire writing and discussion activities.

Book of the Year Shortlist

Don’t miss the annual Book of the Year shortlist—an excellent source of high-quality Australian children’s literature. These books can become the heart of your Book Week program, from read-aloud to art projects and writing prompts.

Activity Ideas

CBCA’s free activities include writing challenges, drawing tasks, and creative thinking exercises all based around “Book an Adventure.” Use them to fill your literacy block or launch Book Week morning activities.

Don’t forget to download the official 2025 CBCA Passport —a fun and interactive way for students to document their reading journey throughout the week. With each book they explore, they can stamp or tick off destinations in their passport. Your exciting adventure awaits!
