Give young writers a clear path from idea to finished story — every single time.

These Narrative Writing Planning Templates take the overwhelm out of story writing by walking students through each stage of the narrative process. With structured scaffolding for characters, setting, problem and solution, students can focus on their creativity rather than trying to remember what comes next.

Ideal for Years 2–5, these templates work beautifully as a first-draft planning tool before students move into their good copy — helping them write with more confidence, structure and detail.

Why teachers love it:

  • Scaffolded for success — breaks narrative planning into manageable steps even reluctant writers can follow
  • Builds writing independence — students learn to organise their ideas before they start writing
  • Flexible use — works for modelled writing, guided writing, or independent tasks
  • Saves marking time — structured plans mean more focused, easier-to-assess writing pieces

Perfect for:

  • Writing block and English rotations
  • Before a narrative assessment task
  • Supporting students who struggle to organise ideas
  • Modelled and guided writing sessions
  • Relief teacher days — clear, self-explanatory tasks

What's included:
Printable narrative writing planning templates covering character, setting, plot structure (beginning, middle, end), and problem/solution — ready to print and use straight away.

Because great stories start with a great plan.
