Make elapsed time click — with engaging story-based activities that bring telling the time to life.

These Elapsed Time Story Time Telling Activities take the abstract concept of elapsed time and wrap it in real-world stories that students can actually connect with. By working through time-based scenarios from start to finish, students build a practical understanding of how time passes — not just how to read a clock.

Perfect for Year 3 and Year 4, elapsed time can be tricky to teach, but these activities make the concept tangible, manageable and genuinely interesting.

Why teachers love it:

  • Story-based context — real-world scenarios make elapsed time meaningful, not abstract
  • Supports multiple strategies — students can use number lines, clocks, or counting on
  • Curriculum-aligned — targets the time content in the Australian Curriculum's Measurement strand
  • No-prep — print and it's ready for your next maths lesson

Perfect for:

  • Year 3 and Year 4 time units
  • Maths rotations and small group instruction
  • Guided maths sessions targeting elapsed time
  • Fast finisher extension activities
  • Homework tasks connecting maths to real life

What's included:
Printable elapsed time story activities with real-world scenarios — designed to help students calculate and reason about how much time has passed using meaningful contexts.

Time flies when maths makes sense.
