Letter X
X marks the spot — explore the fascinating /ks/ sound with this unique Letter X display card!
The letter X is one of the most intriguing letters in the alphabet, and this display card gives it the attention it deserves. Unlike most letters, X typically appears at the END of words, making the /ks/ sound as in "fox" — a unique feature that makes for a brilliant teaching moment! X has a cross-like formation — two diagonal lines meeting in the middle — that makes it visually distinctive and easy to spot on the page.
From fox to box to mix, once students hear the /ks/ sound they'll start noticing X at the end of words everywhere.
Why teachers love it:
- Unique sound focus — highlights the /ks/ sound as in "fox", teaching students that X typically comes at the END of words
- Great conversation starter — X's unusual placement in words makes it a memorable phonics discussion point
- Clear X formation — the cross-shape of X is shown in upper and lowercase for handwriting reference
- Full alphabet set compatible — completes the collection alongside all other alphabet display cards
Perfect for:
- Alphabet wall displays and literacy corners
- Phonics lessons exploring letters that appear at the end of words
- Prep, Foundation, and Year 1 classrooms
- Letter of the week activities — X makes it extra special!
- CVC and word-ending phonics work (box, fox, mix, wax)
